Saturday night almost 2,000 fans of Dodie and Tessa Violet lined up outside of Brooklyn Steel in anticipation the sold out show. This was the second stop of the 14 date North American tour. LA indie rockers Hunny bring loud tunes to Queen’s Trans-Pecos (with Talk In Tongues and Made Violent)

Hunny, an indie rock band from Southern California, is currently on tour with Made Violent and Talk In Tongues. On March 23, the bands put on a loud show at Trans-Pecos in Queens, New York. It was my first time attending this venue, so I was already excited to have a new experience, and the night definitely lived up to my high expectations. The venue didn’t look like anything special from the outside, but as soon as we entered the door, we were transformed into a totally new environment. The room was filled with plants, hanging from the ceiling and in pots scattered throughout the room, including on stage. There were wild, super saturated lights of various colors all around the room, making it feel like everyone was a part of the experience instead of just having dim lights everywhere except the stage.

Talk In Tongues and Made Violent opened the night and got everyone excited and ready to party. When Hunny took the stage, the packed room erupted in cheers and chants from several people about how cute they were (its not what you’re thinking – the majority of fans yelling were grown men, not just squealing teenage girls). The band played a few new songs from their upcoming release, Windows EP II, which as of now, has no set release date. “I’m being electrocuted!”Jason Yarger, the lead singer, yelled into the microphone because he was getting shocked every time his lips touched the mic. “If I pass out, it’s not some fun act,” he shrugged, “all in the name of sweet sweet rock n roll.”

Kevin Grimmett, who usually is on keys, played bass for the first time live that night. Throughout the set the band cracked several jokes about it. Jason announced that there were two songs left because Kevin didn’t know how to play bass for any more songs. “Its the other way around,” he said, “he doesn’t know anymore bass and there’s two songs left. We’re screwed.”

Right before starting the last song, Jason yelled “New York has the most beautiful trash!” I’m not entirely sure what inspired this statement, however I don’t disagree. Hunny closed their set with “Televised” and Jason got in the crowd at the end and danced with everyone then thanked everyone for coming. If you want to see Hunny (you definitely should) then check out the remaining tour dates below:
