Avatar throw down alongside 68, Dance With The Dead and Devin Townsend at First Avenue in Minneapolis

After a cloudy and chilly start to the day on a five mile hike, I was glad to be walking in the mild cloud covered sun to First Avenue to catch Avatar for the second time. The first time I saw this band play was when they opened to Trivium last fall and at first I thought I was in for a gimmicky or showy band that was going to be hit or miss on their sound. What I got instead was a band that came out hard for a forty minute set and absolutely crushed every moment of it. I walked away from that show in awe and hoping Avatar wouldn’t skip out on the Twin Cities the next time they toured North America. Continue Reading

Hardcore band Fever 333 bring politics and positivity to The Varsity Theatre in Minneapolis

Last year at Northern Invasion, I was introduced to a band that has stuck with me not only because of the power behind their music but of their performance. The band, Fever 333, made their second stop this year in Minneapolis, this time at The Varsity Theatre, and it was a performance that I couldn’t wait for. Continue Reading

Taking Back Sunday celebrate their 20-year anniversary as a band (and new album “Twenty”) with the Maine at First Avenue in Minneapolis

It’s been so long since I’ve been to a show at First Avenue that I honestly can’t remember the last show I was here for. Considering this venue has a show practically every night of the year, it’s almost a shame that I have no recollection of when I was here last. Continue Reading

Godsmack, Volbeat and Stitched Up Heart bring bright lighting and plumes of pyro to The Armory in Minneapolis

The last time I was at The Armory, it was during a snowstorm for Bring Me The Horizon back in February. The Armory, one of my personal favorite venues to photograph at, is the newest venue to Minneapolis, and was where the sold out Godsmack show was being held. I’ll admit, walking in downtown Minneapolis after a rainstorm was a thousand times better than trekking through the snow to catch a show. Continue Reading

The Devil Wars Prada mix nostalgia and a new, pumped up live show in Minneapolis (with ‘68 and Fit For A King)

Honestly I can’t remember the last time I’ve been to a show at The Varsity Theatre in Minneapolis, but over the summer when I was there almost once a week it became a favorite venue of mine in the Twin Cities. Luckily for me, The Devil Wears Prada’s ten year anniversary tour for their album “With Roots Above and Branches Below” made a stop at The Varsity and brought along ‘68 and Fit For A King. Rise Against, AFI and Anti-Flag fill The Armory in Minneapolis with punk-rock energy

It’s been nearly a month since that last concert that I’ve photographed and the nerves were definitely flowing when I arrived to The Armory in downtown Minneapolis last week for Rise Against. The venue was slowly starting to fill in when I got there, and the sense of excitement for the night ahead was in the air. The lineup for the night consisted of Anti-Flag, AFI, and Rise Against, and this three band lineup was more than enough to get me excited for the night ahead. Continue Reading

Northern Invasion Day Two sees energy-filled sets from Andrew WK, The Used, I See Stars, Hawthorne Heights and more

After a cold, yet incredible start to Northern Invasion on day one, I was excited to walk into the festival grounds under a clear skies and a warm sun. Even with the first day stacked with bands I wanted to see, the lineup for day two was just as good, and as the crowd tricked into Somerset Amphitheater, I could feel the energy and eagerness rising. The first day of Northern Invasion was full of anticipation and excitement even though the cold and grey weather would have suggested otherwise. Moose Blood and Lydia pack The Garage in Minnesota for a captivating and complimentary show

It has been a little while since I’ve photographed a show thanks to both preparing for Parahoy! As well as moving, but I was more than ready to get back into it as soon as my vacation ended. Even though I’ve shot countless shows, the first one after a break always makes me nervous. Thankfully, as I walked into The Garage to catch Lydia and Moose Blood, the nerves settled down and the music and the crowd settled me down.  Continue Reading
