Seasoned vets G-Love & Special Sauce bring their funky, alternative sound to Austin’s Scoot Inn

Twenty-six years and eight studio albums later, G-Love and Special Sauce are still dippin’ their hip-hop harmonics into today’s music scene.

It was a brisk night as Scoot Inn in Austin, TX filled up with fans of all ages. With years under the band’s sleeves, the diversity in the crowd ranged from baby boomers to millennial. None the less, each individual held something dear to them, and that is the praise of the endlessly talent Garett Dunton and special crew.

The night opened up with a funky infused set by Ron Artis II & The Truth. The group journeyed from their Hawaii home state to tag along on G-Love’s US tour. To set the mood, the band delievered blues and soul tunes with an energetic stage presence.

As 10 o’clock came around, G-Love took the platform dressed up in his standard, formal stage attire. Despite the weather, the group powered through the cold evening and played through 2 sets featuring Ron Artis. The band jammed their way through varies albums, started with hits from their self-titled, G-Love and Special Sauce to newer albums like Love Saves the Day and Sugar. To end the evening, they pulled out Booty Call from their 2004 album Hustle.

From a Pennsylvanian who moved their way down south, it’s such a joy seeing PA artist’s perform in my new home. Be sure to check out G-Love and his Special Sauce lovin’ crew as they continue on their US tour!
