New year, new album, same D. Tenacious D treats Las Vegas to two New Year’s shows

New year, new album, same D.

Some folks come to Vegas to get married, while others come to town to gamble their savings away. This New Year’s was one for the books as the Fabulous City was treated to a back to back feature of The Greatest Band in the World: Tenacious D.

It’s been a long six months for D fans, as they awaited for the arrival of their newest album: Post Apocalypto. The beloved duo of Jack Black and Kyle Gass took a new route with their music, by creating an album, which doubles as a soundtrack to their new animatic Youtube Series.

As unique as the album, the shows were an experience in themselves. Laid out like a backwards timeline, the show kicked off with a full stage screen showcasing the movie featuring Jack Black’s cartoons. In between skits, the screen would fade and the duo would appear from the abyss, playing all the tunes from the new LP.

Right as the movie wrapped up, the screen was risen as well as the Phoenix. The band dabbed into their time machine and broke out with their third album “Rise of the Phoenix”. Black liked to call this second half of the show “The Greatest Hits”. The evening continued with tunes from their first three albums as well as a few HBO songs. D fans were raging as they indulged in a reminisce of some beloved songs like “Low Hanging Fruit”, “Tribute”, and the D even successful destroyed the Devil with their song “Beelzeboss (The Final Showdown)”.

Towards the end of the night, the crowd was treated to a very special guest “Sasquatch” whom even performed solo with a creative cover of “Ram Jam, Black Betty” prior to the band returning for an encore with “Fuck Her Gently”.

To wrap up the experience, The Greatest Band in the World have performed The Greatest New Years show in The World and there was no possible way to start off the year than in the presence of the Kings themselves. All hail the D!
