joan and Misterwives bring energetic, groovy pop-rock to Texas Live! in Arlington, Texas

I’ve been a fan of joan since around the time they first released music about a year ago. I remember hearing their song “Love Somebody Like You” and thought “Yep, I can definitely see myself becoming obsessed with this band’s music”.

joan is a very 80s influenced pop duo from Little Rock, AK consisting of Alan Benjamin Thomas and Steven Rutherford. This past Friday in Arlington, TX, I had the opportunity to meet up with them before their show and take quite a few portraits and just chat. They are, without a doubt, two of the most down to earth, chill guys I’ve met.

Now, fast forward to showtime. They were playing at an outdoor venue called “Texas Live!” and according to the boys it was the biggest venue they’ve played yet. Luckily and surprisingly, storms held off during their set.

They put on such an incredible show, and I was amazed at how close their performance sounded to the record. I see so much potential in these guys and hope they get the recognition they deserve. They recently released their first EP titled “portra” which is available on all streaming sites, and I 100% recommend checking them out!

Not long after joan finished their set, the rain decided to plummet down with no signs of it letting up. There was about an hour rain delay, but Misterwives did not let that stop them from putting on the most energetic, hype show. The rain most definitely did not keep people from having the time of their lives to their favorite band. Mandy Lee (singer) has an incredible amount of stage presence, probably the most I’ve seen so far being as a concert attendee and photographer, and an extreme voice on her. I love when I can feel the energy and happiness from a band, because I can really tell they’re doing what they love and they love what they’re doing.
