Swedish sisters First Aid Kit provide a healing night of folk rock supporting ‘Ruins’ at the Palace Theatre

Currently halfway through their North American Tour in support of their January 2018 release “Ruins,” Swedish folk rockers First Aid Kit brought an incredible show to a sold out crowd at the Palace Theatre in Saint Paul, MN.

With “Ruins” as their first full length since 2014’s “Stay Gold,” the duo, composed of sisters Johanna & Klara Söderberg, proved that their live show has not skipped a beat and brought an evening of melodic and emotive music to the chilly Twin Cities.

Opening the evening at the Palace Theatre was Van WIlliam, a solo artist from Los Angeles accompanied by a full band. The beginning of William’s set opened with red lights beaming from the floor of each side of the stage, setting the tone for a soothing indie folk ambiance. William released his full length “Countries,” last month and throughout the entire set, William & Co. constantly engaged with the crowd with their simplistic yet engaging sound backed by strong vocals, evoking passion in each note.

Shortly after Van William left the stage, First Aid Kit took it by storm, as the crowd cheered with each moment during the duo’s opening song. The set was live streamed through local radio station The Current, giving those unable to snag a ticket before the show sold out a chance to see how well the duo played off of each other on stage, both sonically and charismatically feeding into a brilliant stage presence and musical performance. One of the best aspects of their show was how effortlessly First Aid Kit was able to switch between gentle croons to fierce vocals, generating an unmatched crowd response. A definite highlight of their set was their cover of “Crazy on You,” as the duo took the original song and made it completely into their own. First Aid Kit’s live show is a must see, as the duo puts on a captivating performance from stop to finish.
