ODESZA bring out all their friends at sold out show in Chicago (with Sofi Tukker)

Dramatic lights and a powerful bass dazzled and resonated around the room as smoke and confetti cannons rained over crowded during last week’s ODESZA show at UIC Pavilion. The chillwave electropop duo played a sensational set at the sold out show. Not a single attendee was sitting down from start to end, with an arena full of light, color, and dancing. Throughout the show, ODESZA brought out a lineup of guests from their latest album, “A Moment Apart”, that included WYNNE, Naomi Wild, and Leon Bridges. The tour brought together ODESZA’s hits from previous albums as well as newer chart topping songs.

ODESZA formed in Seattle during 2012 when Harrison Mills and Clayton Knight decided to collaborate on music. Their debut album, “Summer’s Gone”, was released within a few month after their formation. The name ODESZA is from Mills’ uncle sunken ship, only Mills’ uncle and one other crewmen survived. By 2014, their second album “In Return” dropped. In 2015, their song “Say My Name” (RAC Remix) was nominated for a Grammy.

“A Moment Apart”, their latest album, has reached number three on Billboard’s “Top 200”. As of late November, the duo has been nominated for two more Grammy awards for their latest album. With all their recent achievements, there seems to be no end in sight for the number of this duo’s chart topping hits.

Opener Sofi Tukker met during their senior year at Brown when Sophie Hawley-Weld was playing for an art gallery opening and Tucker Halpern was the DJ at the after party. Their song “Drinkee” was nominated for Best Dance Recording in 2016. Sofi Tukker has gone on to a rapid climb in musical success the past few months with their song “Best Friend” featuring in iPhone X commercials across the globe and reaching 1.8 million hits the week after its Apple debut.

“Best Friend” has reached number fourteen on Billboard’s “Hot Dance/Electronic Songs”. Throughout their career thus far, “The Book Tree” has been a component brought to all their shows. It is an 8 foot tall and 5 foot wide synth drum that sits in the center of the stage and is the main instrument for their sets. The duo is extremely energetic and left a smile on the crowd’s face with their tropical vibes and enigmatic dance moves.
