San Diego-based reggae band Hirie brings their “The Woman Comes First Tour” to Portland’s Analog Theater

Hirie is a reggae band based out of San Diego, CA. The band originally started by lead singer Trish who does an amazing job of merging reggae and pop together. This tour is particularly special because it is Hirie’s FIRST headlining tour!

Nattalie Rize is a reggae musician, originally from Australia, and her band is from Jamaica. Nattalie is also heavily known for her political activism, as it inspires most of her lyrics. The people of Portland were very antsy awaiting Nattalie Rize. Her performance was spectacular, and I would say the smiles and dance moves from the crowd would agree. She mentioned and apologized a few times during her set that she was under the weather so she felt like she wasn’t performing her best but honestly, you couldn’t tell!

Over the past few years the band has worked very hard to get their name out there and they have NOT rested. Night after night, show after show, tour after tour, and the hard work has payed off! Congratulations HIRIE. The venue started filling up quickly as more and more people showed up for good live reggae music.

Your grandmother was there, your little cousin was there, your friends were there, everyone was there because anyone could be there. HIRIE, truly a band for everyone. The show started like their other shows– the band will get into the groove of the night before Trish comes out and dominates, but the atmosphere was different this time. A new found confidence within the band it seemed. For the first time in Portland, we were all there to see the headlining band, Hirie. We didn’t stumble across them as an opener, we all went there to support them. A few kids about the ages of 8-11 were front row, and Hirie gave them a night to remember forever as they were not overlooked and Trish constantly went over to sing to them.

When the show was over, the “encore” chants started immediately. Originally, there were only 2 songs they were going to play as an encore, but two local massage therapists met the band before the show and spoiled them, so in return Portland got an extra song that was not on their setlist at all. We all appreciated it and loved it, thank you to whoever you two are!
