Modest Mouse supports their album “Strangers to Ourselves” with a show in St. Paul alongside Mass Gothic

Right on the tail end of their fall tour in support of their 2015 album “Strangers to Ourselves,” Washington based alternative rock band Modest Mouse made a stop at The Myth in Saint Paul, MN. While the crowd trickled into the venue between the hour before doors and the start of Modest Mouse, for the start of the headliner, the crowd was tightly packed and filled with anticipation.

Composed of Isaac Brock (vocals/guitars), Jeremiah Green (drums), multi-instrumentalist Tom Peloso, Jim Fairchild (guitars/strings), Russell Higbee (bass), multi-instrumentalist Lisa Molinaro, and Ben Massarella (percussion), Modest Mouse put on an extremely polished and well rounded set, easily outdoing any expectation that was set upon entering The Myth.

While the stage could give off the impression of being crowded at times with all of the members and instruments on stage at once, Modest Mouse navigated instrument changes in between songs with ease, flowing from one song to the next. With a carefully crafted light set up to match the vibe of each song and an incredibly talented set of musicians onstage to perform them, Modest Mouse overall put on a live show that made it difficult to not stare at the stage in awe of their musical prowess and mastery.

Opening the show as well as providing direct support for Modest Mouse was New York’s alternative band Mass Gothic. The band set the tone for the ambiance of the evening with their emotive sound and backlit lighting, resulting in a mellow and relaxing environment that provided a perfect leeway into Modest Mouse’s set.
