Poptone (ex-Love & Rockets / Bauhaus / Tone on Tail) wrap their East Coast tour with a New York show

A sea of black denim, dark eyeliner, and antiquated Victorian-era sensibilities filled the Irving Plaza on August 5th; all to adorn themselves with the mood and style of the duo that inspired it all. Daniel Ash and Kevin Haskins can count themselves lucky–three times to be exact. The duo’s legacy is firmly embedded in goth–a strange amalgamation of glam, punk, and dub, with a little bit of morbid romanticism to set the mood.

Said mood found itself expressing itself through a career-spanning setlist, with hits and deep cuts from the catalogs of Bauhaus, Love and Rockets, and Tone on Tail. Supported by the elegant Diva Dompe, who is also Haskin’s daughter, Dompe delivered the steady hand necessary to bridge the thematic gaps of her father’s music. By the end of the 19 song setlist, it was evident that the goth kids were alright.
