Warpaint make a triumphant return to New York, playing to a packed Music Hall of Williamsburg

Returning from a one month stint overseas, Warpaint made their triumphant return to Brooklyn to a packed house at The Music Hall of Williamsburg. Sponsored by footwear brand Steve Madden, the crowd was a peculiar mix of fashionistas, industry insiders, and die hard fans. Some were crowding the stage hours before the band would come on; others were unwinding in the lounge pontificating on about strategies relating to brand management. Brooklyn in a nut shell.

Experiencing Warpaint live is a practice in adapting to a contradiction. On the one hand, there’s an aural bubble of intimacy the band exhibits, though the strobing lights strike you while a driving rhythm section physically shakes you. The vocal harmonies are akin to an ethereal choir, yet a cacophony of displaced beats evolves into an unnatural noise. Ultimately, what you find is a band that keeps you intrigued and engaged for the entirety of the evening, and in the age of perpetual content, that is a rare feat to conquer.
