Ric Wilson sells out Schubas Tavern as a birthday present to himself (with C$, Elton Aura and Morimoto)

Chicago native Ric Wilson sold out Schubas Tavern for a musically colorful night, full of friends and dancing. The 22-year-old rapper is positive reinforcement of just how much talent Chicago has to offer and the bright future of this city’s music scene.

Wilson’s ever lasting energy to move and groove kept everyone on their feet, their bodies driven by his contagious spirit, including his youngest fan who was only 8 years old. Ric Wilson’s EP “Soul Bounce” gained the buzz of Chicago’s heart a year ago, and his second EP “Negrow Disco” dropped last Monday. His groovy old school framework meshed with new school sound is infectious, layered with rhythmic lyrics delivers head bouncing and toe tapping beats.

Ric Wilson is a product of Young Chicago Authors, the same poetry program which helped launch the careers of Chance the Rapper, Vic Mensa, and numerous other Chicago breakouts in the past few years. “Soul Bounce,” which was produced by 3Lo and assisted by guitarist Austin Peters, is the young rappers newest hit. It features club beats and conscious lyrics, building off the sounds of his first EP, “The Sun Was Out.”

Ric has a few more Chicago shows in the month of May. Hear his music and get tickets at ricwilsonisme.bandcamp.com.
